This Little Piggy Turned 9

This cake was for a 9 year-old's birthday. He's covered in fondant with gum paste ears. The mud is buttercream frosting. A big thank you to my husband for the design idea and the carving.

Pickles and Ice Cream

This was for a baby shower. The cake is hand-painted fondant. The cherries are fondant with gum paste stems.

I had no idea on how to do the ice cream. I happened to Tivo a Food Network Challenge that featured food stylists and one of their challenges was to make a banana split. It turns out that fake ice cream is just a modified stiff frosting. I love how it turned out!

Getting Married to a Green Bay Fan

This beautiful cake is white cake with buttercream filling and frosting, topped with ribbon and fresh flowers.

The bride and groom's initials:

The groom's cake: white with buttercream.

The largest oval I could find wasn't big enough to get the 100 servings they were asking for, so I asked if I could supplement it with a smaller cake- something I think of when I think Green Bay and Wisconsin:

It all started with a cutting board. This is a cardboard cake circle covered with fondant, then painted with food colouring.

Then I added the "cheese". White cake with buttercream filling covered with fondant. I used food colouring to give it more depth.

Guaranteed to make a Packers fan happy!

Happy Father's Day!

A fondant and buttercream shirt cake for a Brave's fan. It was done in my most popular flavour combination: white almond cake with raspberry filling.

Shaped Cakes

I did two shaped birthday cakes for this weekend. A guitar and a Ping golf bag. My photography stinks (I think I had a little too much caffeine to get me through the night, lol). That, and I hate the lighting from those CCF bulbs.

Let It Snow

Trees made out of sugar cones and frosting kids top this cake.

Fairy

I did this for my punk rock sister. The wings are royal icing on tulle.

Boooooo!

I love doing holiday cakes- you can really let your playful side show.

Bugs and Buds

This was Mischa's 2nd birthday cake.

Blue Screen of Death

I made this for a friend's husband's 47th birthday. He really liked the details- Perry made sure I had the USB ports and everything. This is actually the size of my real laptop.

E-I-E-I-O

In my MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) group, we had a meeting on childrens' party ideas. Our group had boy/girl party and decided to use a farm theme. The barn and haystacks are cake. I was going to toast coconut and use that on the ground, but a family emergency happened and my brain wasn't totally with the cake after that.

I Choose You, Pikachu!

A birthday cake for a close friend's son. A little nostalgic, since he's almost done with high school. I found a Pokemon book with punch out figures, which I then laminated with clear contact paper to keep the grease from the frosting from soaking through.

Thomas

This was a hard one keeping away from Liesie- she not only kept insisting to ride it, but it was chocolate cake, too.

Hawaii

This volcano cake was fun, even if it was a beast to put together. I did this for a Cub Scout Blue and Gold, as well as Caleb's end of year party. This one has the volcano covered in fondant, which was easier than covering it with buttercream. The inside holds a juice glass that I put dry ice in and added water for the smoke.
This little guy was fun, although keeping the pretzel stick upright wasn't. Liesie "helped" me with this cake by tasting the frosting on the side. I had used all of my blue, and anyone who does cakes will tell you that matching frosting is a beast. I came up with a wave effect made up of a royal blue, white, and sky blue mixed gently together. It turned out better than the straight blue I had before. I used the same technique for the lava on the volcano. Thanks Liesie!
